Santa Barbara City Council 2021
Kristen Sneddon is a Santa Barbara local and resident of over 30 years. She is running for re-election to Santa Barbara City Council District 4 because she knows and believes in Santa Barbara. Kristen is passionate about representing the beautiful and community-centered neighborhoods of Upper State, Eucalyptus Hill, San Roque, the Upper Eastside, and the Riviera.
Santa Barbara is at a critical juncture in its history. In the coming years, the City will address the post-Covid world. We will need to rebuild our economy and health, while still adapting to changes in extreme weather, fire hazards, water use, and public safety. City leaders will be making critical decisions to address vacant storefronts along State Street, the excessive cost of housing in our community, and the density of housing. Through her experiences as an incumbent councilmember and education leader, Kristen has developed a deep appreciation for the city’s strengths. She has the background and experience to bring a balanced perspective to these decisions, preserving the character of our city, while contributing to our legacy of environmental leadership. Kristen believes that by working together, we can continue to inspire the people of Santa Barbara to reach our potential.
Kristen is a local. She graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1989, not long after the last stop sign was removed from the 101, and before Paseo Nuevo made its debut. Paying her own way through college, she first attended Santa Barbara City College and fell in love with geology, later transferring to UCLA, majoring in Applied Geophysics, and going on to earn her Masters of Science. She specialized in analyzing groundwater contamination.
Kristen and her husband Chris (also a Don '89) are lucky to raise their three children in the city they love. In the years while raising their young children, Kristen was Chair of Starr King Parent-Child Workshop, graduated from Women’s Economic Ventures, served six years as an executive officer on the Governing Board of Peabody Charter School, earned her College Counseling Certificate, opened a small business in college counseling, volunteered teaching college test prep for high school AVID students, and teaches Environmental Geology at Santa Barbara City College. Kristen knows Santa Barbara as a student, a young professional, a shared head of family, an educator, and a community leader.
Kristen would like to hear from you! Let her know what matters to you and what you envision for the future of Santa Barbara.
